This course is designed to prepare students for the AP Biology exam and for subsequent college science courses. It provides students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology. Topics include the biochemistry of life, cellular biology, bioenergetics, heredity and molecular genetics, evolution theory, and ecology, so a strong background in high school Biology and Chemistry will benefit the student in this course and the AP exam. Since the AP Biology exam, this course also contains a strong lab component which emphasizes scientific reasoning, experimental design, proper procedures, and understanding and communicating the results of complex experiments, and prior high school experience with formal lab procedures and reports is essential for success in this course and the AP exam. In addition to providing thorough preparation for the AP exam, all topics are considered from a biblical worldview, with academic discussion of various perspectives that pertain to the integration of faith and science.
