Art 2 - Painting 1

Course Catalog ID:
4024
Subject Categories:
Art and Digital Graphics
Description

This is a studio course appropriate for both the beginner and more advanced painting student. This class will provide students the opportunity to use acrylic paints to creatively explore color theory, color mixing, problem solving, and the expressive handling of the medium. A command of techniques and materials, both traditional and experimental, will be taught. Students will build on the sight drawing/design principles learned in prior TPS Art 1 courses. Instructor feedback, historical examples, and peer critiques will be used extensively to help the students grow in their ability to critically analyze artwork — both their own and that of others. Short writing projects will complement the studio work.

“Over one short semester I have improved so much in my painting skills, and am not intimidated by the large stack of paint tubes on my shelf any more! The teacher is wonderful, and gives great feedback, and I have thoroughly enjoyed this class.”

“Painting is difficult, and I barely had any experience with acrylics in the beginning, but this course helped me improve my painting skills. I can see my growth as an artist, even though it’s only been four months, and I’m excited to take what I’ve learned into making art in the future. I would recommend this course for anyone who has the time and willingness to develop the basics and foundations for acrylic painting.”
