Course Catalog ID:
4363
Subject Categories:
Elementary Class, English Language Arts, Literature and Media
Description

Does your child master reading basics only to struggle with comprehension and retention? Do you have a reluctant reader in your home who could use an academic boost? Does your elementary-aged student need to qualify for a more advanced English class? Or maybe you have a child who enjoys good stories, but chooses titles below grade level? If any of these are true for your family, Reading to Learn 4 can help. Through a combination of direction instruction, collaborative reading groups, and engaging games and challenges, readers will gain skills by interacting with fiction, classics, biographies, nonfiction, opinion pieces, as well as poetry. Each weekly class will consist of two parts: a one-hour of whole-class instruction segment online, followed by a thirty-minute small-group activity completed either with the teacher online, with a parent, or a local friend. Accommodations will be offered for students who do not have access to a learning partner. This literacy course is ideal for learners at a 4th grade level and will equip them for Reading in Action 5 and 6.
