Web Site Design and Customization - HTML and CSS

Course Catalog ID:
4093
Subject Categories:
Academic Elective, Career Exploration, Computer Programming and Applications
Description

This exciting course teaches HTML and CSS by having students go through the entire process of building, styling and updating their own web site. Starting with domain name and host selection, then proceeding to initial build, the course lays the groundwork for going step by step through learning HTML 5 and applying it to the live web site project. In addition to using HTML to customize the structure and organization of their site, students will also master CSS, a language that allows web developers to control the style and design of a site. By the end of the course, each student will have his own dynamic web site which he can use to further his web design skills. This course is excellent training and experience for anyone wanting to run a small business site (self-employed or for an employer). It is also a good foundation for later pursuit of advanced web skills (JavaScript, PHP) or for merging with programming skills. Adults are welcome to this course as well.

“This was an awesome course. You will learn all about the history of the web, how to build a web page, and tools that will help you. By the end of the course, I was able to build a custom website almost entirely from scratch. If you ever want to get into making websites or get a basic grasp of how code works, I would 10/10 recommend.”

“The experience of getting to build your own website using the skills you learn in this class is really fun and educational. The teacher explains all the coding concepts really well and is very receptive to students’ questions and feedback. The amount of homework is manageable and never overwhelming, and the practice exercises in class are very helpful in learning the code and applying it practically. I loved getting to learn so much about HTML and CSS, and some JavaScript too, and applying it to my website! I highly recommend this class, it is really enjoyable and by the end of the year you will have a pretty cool website to show everyone!”

“As someone who technically had no experience with coding, this course was a great way for me to understand the behind-the-scenes of websites and games! It was easy and understandable enough for me to get, and it will certainly help when I launch my own website in the future!”

“I went into this class knowing nothing about coding or website designing and was quite worried that I wasn’t ‘techy enough’ for this course. However, the teacher and the materials are made for all students to understand and enjoy this class. They start you off with the basics and gently expound from there. I am very glad I have taken this course!”
