Be a High Scholar, not just a high schooler!

Earn 24 college credits in high school at home

“BHS has been awesome! It changed my perspective of the world and how I perceive things around me; it challenged me, but I found a new sense of adventure. Class is always a fun trip down history filled with stories as old as time; it’s mind-boggling. Belhaven became more than a class to me, it was my epiphany. And all of my teachers and classmates were amazing!” Abigail J (student)

Provided in partnership with Belhaven University, High Scholars is a Western Civilization humanities curriculum offered exclusively by TPS. This program integrates study of history, literature, composition, and art appreciation (with AP Art History option) — a two-year “Great Books” curriculum which provides a total of 6 high school credits and 24 college credits. It emphasizes discussion and dialogue over memorization of information, and the efficient integration of content allows for a lower workload than if similar courses were taken individually. Each year is taught in only four live classes per week. The program does not require any prior classical humanities background and is taught at an academic level that welcomes students who are ready for TPS English 4/5 (grade 10 and up) but who prefer an integrated approach to humanities.

“I really cannot praise BHS highly enough. The teachers are fun, engaging, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they teach. I never knew I could learn so much while still having fun. With this class meeting four days a week, there is more of an opportunity to grow closer as a class, and I am so grateful for the friends I have made. Rather than studying different eras of history as compartmentalized sections of time, I have learned how all of history interconnects, giving me a much fuller understanding of the world of the past. Although this course is a challenge and a large time commitment, it has transformed my writing and helped me reach academic heights that I never knew I could.” Carolyn Y (student)

Some benefits of High Scholars:

Integrated History + Literature + Composition
  • Full historical scope ancient to contemporary
  • Content integration allows for lower workload
  • 24 college credits transcripted as 6 distinct college courses over two years
  • AP Art History option
  • All teachers are masters level or higher in their area of design and instruction.

“I recommend this course because it so successfully combines English (literature), History, and Art History and they all follow the same timeline! I had never done Art History before, and the College Art Appreciation part of Belhaven High Scholars Year 2 helped me understand and appreciate art in so many new ways.” Glorianna G (student)
