College, English Writing and Literature

“College American Literature is a thrilling course that pulls together different forms of literature from the Federalists Papers to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to poems of Walt Whitman. It is an especially great class to take alongside a U.S. History course as students will be able to read firsthand accounts through this class of the history they learn about. Additionally, this course has interesting paper assignments that allow students to dive deeper into American literature and the history surrounding it. Overall I highly recommend College American Literature.”

English Writing and Literature,

“The fact that the information you learn throughout the year is used simultaneously is ridiculously helpful! Rather than balancing two separate schedules or working through separate texts, this course gives you a single schedule for both history and English as well as streamlining the workload by utilizing your in-class texts for both classes.”

English Writing and Literature

“This course was a great balance of challenging and informative. It provides a nice step away from the strictly formulaic approach to writing essays, taking a more holistic approach that covers lots of different genres and takes a deeper dive into rhetoric and discourse. Over this course you will learn to, among other things, argue a position, write a review, tell a narrative, analyze advertisements, conduct and present thorough research, and find credible, academic sources. Add to that a little bit of sentence composing and light grammar exercises, and you have yourself a great English class.”

Elementary, English Writing and Literature,

“I would recommend this course to others because it really improved my history. Before when I learned history, it just came in one ear and out though the other. In this history class, I actually remember all or most that I learn. I really like how we read a lot of books and I think it is a really fun way to learn history. I love my teacher, she makes history funner and more interesting than it actually is.”

“The grammar course was specific and covered a lot of information that schools skip over. It simplifies a lot of them, too, and there are mnemonic devices that make things easier to remember. I really liked the course.”

“This has no doubt been my FAVORITE class in all my years with TPS. The teacher is very patient and repeats things if you have questions. After you submit an essay, her comments and feedback are very kind and helpful. I am really grateful for her and all of Writing 5!”
