AP Art and Design

Course Catalog ID:
4597
Subject Categories:
AP Course, Art and Digital Graphics
Description

This course is designed to be equivalent to an introductory college course in Drawing, 2-D Art and Design, or 3-D Art and Design. At the start of the course, students decide which of the portfolios will be developed and finalized during the course. (More than one portfolio type may be planned and submitted in the same year. For 2024-25, only Drawing and 2-D Art and Design portfolios will be supported.) During the course, students create the portfolio(s) of work to demonstrate a dedicated approach to idea development, conceptualization, and realization of their artistic vision. Regular class critiques, written reflections, and journaling will provide the student with a community of feedback for growth. Portfolios include works of art and design, process documentation, and written information about the work presented. In May, students submit portfolios to the College Board for evaluation based on specific criteria, which include skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas and sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision, guided by questions.
