AP Calculus BC (AB Full)

Course Catalog ID:
241
Subject Categories:
AP Course, College Dual Credit, Math
Description

This course is for students who excelled in Precalculus and have not previously taken Calculus AB. The course is two full college semesters of Calculus to thoroughly cover all the requirements of Calculus AB/BC plus extensive preparation for the AP Calculus BC exam. In this course, calculus is explored using multiple representations including analytic, algebraic, numerical, graphical, and technological techniques. Students will examine the limit and continuity of functions along with the two main functions of calculus: the derivative and the integral. Derivatives will be explored as a point and as functions, along with second derivatives and applications in optimization, linearization, and related rates. Interpretations and properties of integration will be presented, including Riemann’s Sums and applications of motion, area under curves, and volumes of unusual shapes. The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus will be used for analytical and graphical analysis of functions. Students will investigate infinite series and polynomial approximations using Taylor and Maclaurin series, vector-valued functions, and polar curves. Students will also practice AP-style questions to familiarize themselves with the format and grading techniques. The teacher will reinforce commonly difficult concepts, address general concept questions, strengthen weak areas, host collaborative problem-solving among the students, and provide additional AP prep problems.

“AP Calculus BC was the most challenging course I took throughout high school, but it was also probably the most rewarding. The teacher is incredible! She makes sure all of her students are on track with understanding the concepts, explaining things in new, clear ways when the textbook is confusing. This class is excellent and thorough, completely preparing students for the AP exam with plenty of practice. I highly recommend taking it!”

“AP Calc BC is an intimidating course, but the teacher did an awesome job guiding my class and I through the curriculum. Her ability to dissect complex concepts and present them in manageable chunks was key to my understanding of the topics covered. Her lessons were straight to the point, but she also took the time to connect with us on a more personal level. I would highly recommend joining her courses if you want to prepare yourself well for the AP exam!”

“This class is challenging, but the teacher explains all the concepts clearly and answers any questions entirely and leaves you with a confident, thorough knowledge of how to solve the problems and apply the concepts from class. Moreover, her positive, encouraging attitude, plus her jokes, make learning calculus extra fun. 🙂 And the AP practice is exceptionally thorough and efficient! I feel entirely prepared for the AP exam.”

“Although challenging, the course presents content clearly and thoroughly, prepares you greatly for pursuance of careers in this field and the AP test, and will help solidify some topics from past years. It was a joy to be in this class. The teacher was, as usual, phenomenal and a joy to learn from, and the students were fun and helpful to study with in breakout rooms.”

“My experience with this course and teacher has been nothing other than wonderful! The course goes at a good pace so that the last weeks of the course are a comprehensive review for the AP exam, including several full practice AP tests, free response practice, and in-class review/practice. This course helped me know exactly what to expect on the AP test and how to be prepared for it. This course also gave me a strong mathematical base as I pursue an undergraduate degree in the STEM field.”
