TPS Global Languages Classes

“Spanish with TPS is a great mix of challenge and fun. Classes are always in depth and engaging, and the teachers are always eager to explain something if someone doesn’t quite understand a concept. The material itself is great. The workbooks and textbooks explain everything very clearly. Everything overall is a great experience.” Cameron C (student)

There are many global language courses for homeschoolers. What makes TPS language and culture courses stand out from the rest? The three things we hear most often from students:

  • I learned more language in this course than in the others I have taken.
  • I learned not only the language but the culture.
  • This was my most fun course.

Don’t take our word for it – continue below to see what our students say about each of our Global Language courses.

Standard or Honors

We offer some languages (e.g., Spanish, French, German) in Standard and Honors tracks. What is the difference?

For Spanish and French, the Honors track is designed to prepare the student for AP Spanish or French. The standard track is more relaxed for students who need only two years of the language for college applications.

Honors
  • For students who may want to continue to Year 3 or higher in the language, including those considering taking the AP exam.
  • Honors Global Language courses meet two times per week.
  • Faster pace and higher workload to stay on track for further study and potential AP exam readiness.
  • Matriculating to the next level from Honors to Standard is easy because the Honors track moves faster.
Standard
  • For students who want only two years of the language (e.g., to meet minimum college application requirements).
  • Standard track Global Language courses meet one time per week.
  • Faster pace and higher workload to stay on track for further study and potential AP exam readiness.
  • Matriculating from Standard to Honors would require repeating a year at the Honors level (to make up the gaps between Standard and Honors progress).

Spanish

“Spanish was my favorite class this year. I learned more in this class than my two years of Rosetta Stone and another online class combined!” Keziah S (student)

French

“After taking TPS French 1 and 2, I enrolled in French 3 at my local community college for the second semester. I was afraid it would be much more challenging than TPS, but I was amazed to discover that all the grammar we were studying, I had already learned back in French 2! More than that, I had learned it all in a way that was so much easier to understand! Lucky for me, I was able to come back to TPS French as a senior this year and continue my studies in French 4/5.” Emily P (student)

German

“The German courses at TPS have been some of my favorite courses throughout high school. The program has placed me at a level far above many of my peers coming from other educational environments in my ability to understand, speak, and test in a global language. I would fully recommend the German program here at TPS.” Joshua V (student)

Italian

“I absolutely loved this class! It was my favorite class of the entire year. The teacher made the lessons clear and always went at our pace. She also included interactive activities and even showed us many recipes in Italian which could include our families. I highly recommend this class, and look forward to taking the next level next school year.” Joanna B (student)

Russian

“TPS Russian is a fantastic course to take for any student who wishes to immerse in the language and culture. The teacher not only provided plenty of beneficial homework for us to complete, but also gave extra opportunities to further our understanding of the Russian language and culture. I am looking forward to continuing my Russian studies.” Annalia F (student)
