French 1B Language and Culture

Course Catalog ID:
3919
Subject Categories:
Global Language
Description

French is spoken on all continents and by more than 220 million people in over 40 countries. An estimated one-third of English words are derived from French, and if you speak English then you may already know some 15,000 French words without having studied the language! This course uses an academic French curriculum with great multimedia resources, making the class ideal for a range of student needs, including students who just want to meet high school foreign language requirements for college, and also for students who may want to go further — even to AP French. The course continues from TPS French 1A and uses the same curriculum as TPS French 1, but covers the material at a more relaxed pace and adds learning activities enhanced for middle school learners. Students learn vocabulary for food, clothing, chores, transportation and travel. They continue learning irregular verbs in the present, near past and near future tenses and end with the passé composé.

“If you want to start French in 7th or 8th grade and get a jump on high school language, but you want to move a bit slower, this course is perfect! It follows French 1A and is the same as the second half of French 1. Taking this class gives you more time to learn and allows you to do some extra activities and explorations that you wouldn’t otherwise. I highly recommend this course for those who want to enjoy the French language and culture even more and prepare themselves for upper-level French!”

“This class was such a great experience! The teacher is so amazing and so patient with her students. The class itself had a fairly slow pace, and the homework assigned each week was easy to keep up with. I would recommend this course to anyone who is just starting out with French and is looking for a fun and creative way to start.”
