Course Catalog ID:
3522
Subject Categories:
Art and Digital Graphics, Elementary Class, History
Description

This is a hands-on, project driven class that studies art and artists from the Renaissance to Modern Times. Focusing on a few master artists each week, students will learn about the artists and art movements, and complete a related art project. Through games, discussions, presentations, recorded demonstrations, and virtual field trips, we will explore the elements of art, investigate the art of various cultures, and create artwork inspired by the works we study. With an emphasis on exploring and experimenting with various media, students are exposed to a wide range of materials and techniques. Students will learn to identify and explain the visual elements of artwork — including their own art — in light of a Christian worldview. In addition, students will explore biblical truths reflected in art through the centuries. This class will teach students to appreciate great art while developing creativity and confidence in their own unique abilities.

“Art and Artists has been the most fun and engaging course in my four years with TPS. I adore everything ‘artsy’ and because of that, I have been searching for a rigorous art class that not only provides new, useful information every week, but also teaches and explains new techniques. Since starting the course in the fall, I have been able to answer questions that people have about art by utilizing what I was taught. There is just the right amount of work each week, I had an amazing teacher, and I have already recommended this class on numerous occasions. I will continue to do so, as I want as many people as possible to experience the amazing learning opportunity that this course provided me with. Now, I know exactly what types and movements of art I wish to further research and practice.”

“This is my favorite course in TPS so far. It gave me a general guide to all kinds of different art movements, and I also got to try out these movements through homework. The homework for this class is probably the only homework I ever looked forward to doing. The teacher is also really nice. :)”

“I liked to draw before, but now I can draw more specifically and express myself more easily. I learned some methods that I want to use more, like the one-point perspective, surrealism, and cubism. I also learned some that impressed me, like the color fields and the Dali clocks. In total, this course brought me closer to art!”

“I would recommend this course to others because I think it does a very good job informing the students about individual artists and various art movements. While most art classes outside TPS might focus only on art techniques, Art and Artists gave me extensive information on different artists. I had a lot of fun taking this course!”

“I would recommend this course to anyone who would like to have an amazing experience with different art techniques and a sweep of art history and cool facts. While the art projects and facts are just simply awesome, the neatest thing in class is when we share our art projects and learn from each other.”

“This was an amazing way to learn more about art history and how to work with different mediums. The classes were so fun and the assignments each week reflected what we had learned. It was a joy to have a good piece of art that I was proud of make it into my collection of art each week!”

“The teacher is phenomenal. During the course of the year, we learned about numerous artists and how they were inspired to become artists. We learned their various styles and tried to implement them into our own art. Class times were extremely fun and educational and through our art, we grew in our range and ability. I would highly recommend this class for anyone who wants to have fun with art and practice a vast array of artistic styles.”
