Spanish 3 Language and Culture (Honors)

Course Catalog ID:
3011
Subject Categories:
Global Language, Honors
Description

This ambitious course is designed to reinforce, strengthen, and advance a student’s ability to express and understand Spanish in written and spoken forms. The two live sessions per week provide a lively, interactive environment for teaching and reviewing important concepts, answering questions, and speaking and listening to each other. With a thorough, challenging textbook and regular in-class instruction, we study Spanish grammar at a high level and spend time learning some of the common expressions that are not typically found in books. Using weekly vocabulary lists and activities, this course challenges students to gain an extensive, practical vocabulary for use in a wide range of everyday situations. To build comprehension skills, students will complete at-home listening assignments. The rest of the time is spent in interactive participation designed to increase familiarity and effectiveness in realistic language situations. The instructor will facilitate Spanish conversations and role-plays on a variety of issues, including passages of Scripture and Christian living.

“TPS Spanish is the best Spanish program I’ve taken. We learn practical things about the language, and there is an emphasis on speaking and hearing rather than just learning book knowledge (though we learn grammar as well). We do engaging activities in class that help us gain confidence in speaking and use Spanish to discuss real world issues as well as role playing scenarios. The teacher is always very encouraging and makes Spanish really fun and approachable.”

“Until taking Spanish at TPS, I never would have imagined 3 years of Spanish, let alone a fourth one next year, but the amazing classes and teachers have helped me to fall completely in love with the language and all its quirks. This last year helped me to climb to new heights I barely could have imagined at the end of Spanish 2, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who seeks to progress to the next level of proficiency in the language.”

“Spanish 3 Honors really hones the fundamental skills learned in Spanish 1 & 2. By the end of the year, it was much easier for me to think of the words I wanted to say in Spanish, rather than having to think of them in English first, translate in my head, and then speak my thoughts. I was able to just talk in Spanish. The new grammar concepts that are taught help to reinforce what was previously learned. My vocabulary also broadened as a result of taking this class.”

“The TPS Spanish format for all levels allows the student to fully engage each part of the brain and truly embed the knowledge from the course. It is structured to make the student use writing, reading, and speaking skills to use and understand the language. The class pushes the student to perform at their best, and the teachers are always willing to help if anything proves harder than it should be. The material is broken up in sections to be better digested over the entire year, and the material itself is very applicable to the students’ lives. The teachers have all of the students’ best interests in mind and truly invest in their educations. They always make sure each section is completely understood before moving on to the next.”

“This course is very thorough and good for intermediate learners. Spanish 3 with TPS is much more effective at actually teaching how to speak Spanish than other language courses. Classes are focused on dialogue, and the vocabulary and phrases are used in regular life.”

“This class was amazing! I’ve learned so much this year, and I’ve gotten so much more confident in speaking Spanish. It’s been one of the best classes I’ve taken with TPS so far, and I would definitely take it again!”

“I love this course because it is structured in a way that eliminates confusion. The lessons are created in an order that makes sense and is easy to study, the homework is in the same format every week, and the material really just works with my brain. I also love the teachers I’ve had so much!”

“I did Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 and I loved both! My Spanish has improved greatly this year, and I feel confident to carry on a Spanish conversation in public. Señor is also a very prepared, efficient, fun, and creative teacher, and he always manages to make every class so fun yet pack so much material and practice into every class.”
