“This class has everything you need to start enjoying and naturalizing Spanish in your life. There’s very little grammar and verb tense work, actually, compared to the previous classes. My favorite part of the class is the required 20-30 minutes of listening to Spanish speakers in any format you like, which allowed me to explore all kinds of Spanish music genres and even to find Spanish podcasts and channels I actually listen to in my free time! Additionally, you get to learn about hundreds of different specific Hispanic celebrations, locations, historical figures, and foods over the course of the year that eventually give you a beautiful map of the variety and color of Spanish culture. While in this class, I reached a level of fluency that allowed me to finally enjoy Spanish more as a door to other cultures than as a language I learn in school. I hope other students take the leap and put in the hard work to get as much pleasure out of learning Spanish with this class as I did.”

“For students considering whether or not to take another year of Spanish with TPS, please keep going! Getting to take this class is absolutely worth the three years it takes to improve enough to get here. In Spanish 4 students gain a deeper understanding of the Spanish language by applying it in written activities and class discussions, and they learn about Spanish-speaking culture by reading and discussing articles (written in Spanish, of course). Your language skills will improve immensely through researching and performing presentations and creating personalized vocabulary lists to study. No longer are students reading scripts and learning grammar basics; they are freely engaging and communicating in the language, fine-tuning their skills to prepare for college and careers. If you don’t yet feel confident in your Spanish abilities, by the end of a year in Spanish 4 you will!”

“This course is not only an incredible end to the Spanish courses at TPS, it is a wonderful experience on its own. Rather than focusing mainly on grammar and the more technical side like some of the lower classes, it is structured to let the students spend more time reading and learning about Spanish culture, from famous Spanish plays and Latin American books to articles about different countries and their traditions. I would highly recommend this course to people who want to further their understanding of not only the language, but also the whole new world which it can open up to them.”

“This is a thorough dive into Spanish & Latin American culture while providing plenty of space to practice grammar and improve at writing. I also really loved the literature readings and discussions. Interacting with classmates is a huge part of this class that made it an even more enjoyable experience for me.”

“My experience with TPS Spanish over the past four years has been absolutely wonderful. The teacher does an excellent job of connecting every aspect of the course together: the vocabulary, literature, and cultural readings. He skimps on nothing, and I left every class knowing he cared about his students and their knowledge of Spanish. I am leaving this course with a much better knowledge of the Spanish language and culture than when I began, and I have nothing but praise.”

“TPS Spanish 4 is the best course for advanced Spanish students looking to improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills as well as learn more about Spanish and Latin American cultures. Assigned readings cover a wide variety of topics and are culturally enriching. Class time consists almost entirely of speaking and listening to classmates, unlike non-TPS language courses which may approach class time as solely for the teacher to lecture. While TPS Spanish 4 will require dedication on the part of the student to complete, I would wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone with a strong interest in Spanish. You will come out of this course confident in yourself and speaking Spanish!”

“This is by far the most fun I’ve had in a Spanish class, and I cannot overstate how much this class helped my Spanish to reach the next level. Each week we read multiple articles and typically a chapter or two from a Spanish novel and then talk about it in class. The in-class discussion really served to help me develop my speaking skills, and unlike Spanish 1-3, there isn’t really a huge focus on grammar, aside from a few quick and easy exercises each week just to keep you sharp.”

“TPS Spanish 4 gives excellent instruction in many different areas of language learning. The books and articles assigned have given me confidence in my reading ability, and listening to a variety of sources in Spanish has increased my ability to understand what I hear. This class has honed my grammar, taught me interesting vocabulary, and given me practice speaking. I fully recommend it!”
