“Before taking this class, really studying effectively was a complete mystery to me. I was a good student and always received good grades, but I just plowed through the information without anything really sticking in my head for more than a few weeks. My parents enrolled me in Study Skills the summer before my freshman year of high school, and after the first week, my study habits were completely changed — for the better! After the course ended, I could take notes using various methods, read actively to understand, and retain what I had learned. There is no way I can describe how much this course benefited me or how much I enjoyed it. The textbook was informative, helpful, and readable, the teacher was totally engaging and always ready to answer questions, and all the information I learned will serve me well for the rest of my life! Thank you TPS!”
“I was a little unsure when I signed up for this course how helpful it would be — would the skills taught be things I already know, or would they really be helpful? I shouldn’t have worried. This course covered everything from prioritizing and scheduling to reading, notetaking, reviewing, and studying strategies. Before this course, I would have considered myself decently good at scheduling and note-taking, but almost everything covered on those topics showed me areas I could still improve. I can’t recommend this course more highly. If you want to do better in school, take this. If you think you can’t do better in school, I even more strongly encourage you to take this. I think you will be surprised by how even changing some of the small things taught will make a difference.”
“If you have been struggling with your studies and grades or want to know how to improve them, this course is perfect for you. It teaches students how to study effectively in almost every aspect including note-taking, test-taking, and general assignment studying. On top of that, it teaches students how to learn and how to put what they know in their long-term memory. The teachers of this course are the most fun to work with since they know what a student needs in order to study efficiently and raise their grades.”
“Taking this course has had a drastic impact on the way I study. I learned different study techniques, how to study for tests, how to deal with test anxiety, and so many more important tips. Learning how to plan out my homework especially has helped me procrastinate less, and sometimes I even look forward to studying. I would have never imagined that had I not taken this course!”
“Study Skills is a more than worth it class! I learned how to read and listen effectively and how to take notes using the Cornell method. I learned how to study so that I could remember more in less time, how to make a goal to keep, how to truly manage time, and so many other valuables. What would have taken me years to figure out and apply, I learned in one semester. The teacher is wonderful, and he teaches a wonderful class!”
“This was a fun and challenging summer course. The teacher did a great job during class to help us figure out methods or techniques that suited us for how to study, how to deal with stress or anxiety with tests, and how to manage our time. She did a really good job at showing why these techniques will help us in life by explaining parts of her life where these techniques or methods really helped her. I definitely learned a lot from this class such as the Cornell Note-taking Method, SQ3R, and figuring out different ways to manage my time. The homework was challenging and took me a little bit of time, but I definitely learned a lot from it. Overall, this was a fun class and I am glad that I took it!”
“I really appreciated all the different techniques and basics to learning how to learn. I also really liked the way the teacher would lead us through class while continuing to make all the content interactive and enjoyable. All of the things I learned in this class definitely helped me improve my study skills and impacted my grades accordingly. I also found that I had much more time to enjoy myself when I used the tactics taught in this class because I could finish my homework so much faster.”
“This course was great for me because it had a good amount of homework, including reflection assignments, not overwhelming but enough to make me feel that I had understood the material. I learned a lot of studying, reading, listening, and notetaking techniques and strategies that I think will prepare me for the upcoming year!”
“When I began Study Skills, I was highly skeptical, thinking, how do you talk for an hour and thirty minutes about studying? It turns out I was wrong. It is a highly beneficial course full of gold nuggets, and I will use them to help me in my other classes. Thank you, TPS!”
