World Geography for High School

Course Catalog ID:
1751
Subject Categories:
Social Studies / Social Science
Description

This is an exciting and interactive class that provides students with a solid foundation from which to study all other social sciences. Not only will students learn “where in the world” countries, capitals, and physical features are located, but they will also learn about the people and cultures in those places. Integrating physical, cultural, and political geography, this class strives to help students understand how a region’s landscape uniquely affects how its cultures develop. With recent news filled with reports of natural disasters, political tensions, and “hot topics” such as global warming and conservation, students can also expect to discuss current events and how to respond biblically to the world around them. As a reflection of God’s heart for the nations, this class will emphasize missions efforts in each region studied.

Prerequisites

Reviews from Students and Parents

“The more I learn, the more I realize the limits of my knowledge. Before taking this course, I thought I knew just about everything that mattered about world geography, but how wrong I was! During this school year I’ve learned so much more than simple names or points on a map. I’ve learned about cultures, customs, history, and how the grand story of mankind has unfolded from the beginning of time to bring our world and society to the place it is today. More than that, though, I left this class with an appreciation for the broadness and diversity of our world and a hunger to explore it and connect with people who are so different from me.”

“World Geography gave me a better mental picture to understand where countries are and how they interact with their own local environments. It gave me an excellent perspective about the world and the different climates and topographies of countries and their cultures. I would recommend that students take this early in their high school years so as to build upon the information in this class.”

It really improved my knowledge of world geography and helped me to study and understand space and place, allowing me to recognize and study the connections among the vastly different cultures, political systems, economics, landscapes, and habitats that exist throughout the world.”
