AP World History - Modern

Course Catalog ID:
791
Subject Categories:
AP Course, History
Description

This course uses a text that is rich in media content and updated for the recent exam changes, to help students optimize their scores. It examines common threads of humanity — trade, religion, politics, society, and technology — throughout history, investigating how these have changed in different locations and cultures over time. The student will learn to identify and analyze these broad patterns and processes from the perspective of continuity and change. The course pace is fast, the ideas are complex, and the content is mature, but it is all analyzed with a biblical worldview. The course specifically prepares students to excel on the AP World History exam, and as the course progresses much of the content focuses directly on exam preparation, including AP practice problems, essays, and exams.

“This is an excellent history course on its own, but it is especially outstanding as preparation for the AP World History exam. The writing skills needed on the actual exam are gradually formed over the course of the year, so that the student comes to the testing site not only with an in-depth and detailed knowledge of the content learned over the course of the year, but also with confidence in the details of taking the test itself (for example, familiarity with the bubble sheets used for the multiple-choice questions, or with the special answer sheets given for the short answer questions). The teacher is wonderful and has taught me a lot, not only about world history, but about being a successful high school student and a better person in general. I cannot recommend this course too highly.”

“This course challenged me to write meaningful essays in short amounts of time. The teacher helped to explain how to write each of the essays for the AP exam in thorough detail. In class we went deeper into the subjects discussed in the chapter, and the teacher gave thoughtful insights into the events of the textbook, while helping to explain history from a Biblical standpoint. This course has deepened my love for history and has given me a better of understanding of the events leading up to modern day. I highly recommend this course for all history enthusiasts.”

“If you are someone who enjoys learning about history, this will be a great class for you and will challenge your way of viewing the world, as well as open up your understanding to concepts that have plagued humanity for millennia. At first I did not think I would care much about the course, but over the year I became interested in the information and I do not regret taking it. The course taught me how not to take everything for face value but through research and reason to look underneath what is shown to find the truth. I hope this inspires you to try this course.”

“This course thoroughly covers the material needed to take the AP World History exam, and the resources provided are extremely helpful for revision. The feedback given by the teacher, as well as the mid-year review, enabled me to understand which parts I should work on and the goals I could work towards. The discussions in class also helped me to remember key facts, and I enjoyed listening to different opinions about historical events.”

“I have been thoroughly challenged and prepared for the AP World History test by this class. The assignments are all directed towards preparing you for the AP test, but you still get to enjoy learning about history. This class deepened my understanding of the world’s connectivity and how each location’s history interweaves itself with all history. I also loved my teacher, who enchanted us with his voice impressions and passion for the other side of the commonly-agreed-on history.”
