A 2023 financial literacy study revealed that fewer than one-third of juniors and seniors in high school felt they had the skills or the preparation to manage their finances. Forbes reports that 87% of U.S. teens believe they do not understand personal finances. Half of the U.S. states require a financial literacy course for high school graduation, with multiple others on the verge of adopting the requirement. This course addresses these needs and concerns through practical study of topics related to financial stability and security, and then explores practical concepts and disciplines related to growth and management of wealth. Course topics include budgeting, managing checking and savings accounts, credit and debit card management, income taxes, home ownership, automobile ownership, insurance types and considerations, investment types and strategies, retirement planning, and more. Assignments are practical exercises that build knowledge and skills.
