Let's Talk
Fostering academic excellence and biblical virtue to equip students for lives as local and global Christian servants.

TPS Social Studies – All God’s People

“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein…” (Ps 24:1)

Social Studies (also called Social Sciences) is a group of interrelated academic disciplines that study historical and contemporary human individual behaviors, group behaviors, events, cultures, and ideologies. A biblical worldview studies these as elements of God’s created design and sovereign plan.

What distinguishes TPS Social Studies courses from those offered by others?

Psalm 24 provides a foundation and framework for study of History and Social Studies within TPS, resulting in several academic distinctives in all our courses:

  • All things belong to God — not just “sacred” versus “secular” things.
  • All happenings are in God’s plan — not just happenings we like or with which we agree.
  • All people are created equal in God’s image — not just “western” people or “Christian” people.
  • All people are equal in our fallenness, so the biblical worldview meta-narrative is Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Glorification — not just a framework for an “us” versus “them” polemic in every social topic.
  • Since our primary academic goal is understanding rather than polemic, we emphasize study of original sources and context so we can better understand things that are different in historical time and cultural context from our own individual experience.
  • High school TPS History, Government and Social Science courses are also academically distinguished by their emphasis on multi-source research, objective analysis, and thesis essay writing.

Compare these academic and faith commitments with other course providers — you will not find all these distinctives together anywhere else.

Our goal in TPS History, Government and Social Studies is to prepare students to compassionately understand, respectfully engage, and winsomely influence their world for God.

“Studying for this class was a joy, and the biblical worldview with which it is taught gives history its meaning!” Eunice T (student)
